Nestor Hernandez is a Washington, DC based photographer of Afro-Cuban descent. In 1995, he spent one month in Ghana, documenting a Kente weaving village for the children's book "Master Weaver from Ghana," published in 1998 by Open Hand Press.

While in Ghana, Hernandez first learned to weave and became fascinated with African textiles. He plans to visit Africa again in December, 1999 to continue his documentation of African textile artists, this time to photograph weavers and spinners in Korhogo, a village in northern Ivory Coast.
