Ibou N’Diaye, Sculptor

Ibou_straight

Welcome, I’m a sculptor creating art from wood using traditional tools, such as adzes, hatchets, chisels and files.  I  have been working as a sculptor for over 30 years. I prefer to work in ebony and mahogany, but I have also produced pieces in teak, neem, oak, maple and purpleheart. I come from Bandiagara, which is the heart of Dogon Country in Mali.

My work is very creative and innovative, building on ancient symbols and images from my people in Dogon Country, to create modern interpretations and new forms. I am inspired most by the wood, and get the ideas for my sculptures from the grain and feel of the wood itself as I start to work with each piece.

Please have a look at my sculptures and leave me a message about your reactions and thoughts.

My work is currently on exhibit at the Zenith Gallery, 1111 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20004. Please come to the opening reception on  Wednesday, June 8th from 5-8 pm.
