T.Y. Kente Weaving Enterprise is a medium scale weaving enterprise located at Agortime Akpokope in the Ho District of the Volta region of Ghana. The company started in 1992 and registered in 1998.

Its main products are Kente cloth products woven on local looms and include mufflers, Stoles, Shawls, mats, tablecloths, window and door curtains, bedcovers with pillow cases, wall hangings, hats, ties and bowties.

The managing director is Mr. Thompson Yao Avornyotse, a young dynamic entrepreneur with much vision, drive and initiative. The enterprise has 24 weavers and is managed with the assistance of a supervisor. The founder has also been instrumental in forming the Agortime Kpetoe Weavers Association comprising 130 handloom textile weavers, of which he is the current chairman.

The formation of the association has set a firm production base for meeting large orders that cannot be met by any one producer. Mr. Avornyotse does coordination and delivery of large orders. Current buyers are from Ghana, Nigeria, Cote D'Ivoire, Benin, Mali, Burkina Faso and Togo and also Ghanaian commission agents in Europe. Products can be shipped from Tema Port, on the outskirts of Accra, Ghana or by air from Accra.

The managing director has on behalf of the enterprise, participated in African Traditional Weavers Events (Fashion Show, Micro Finance and Development) held in Paris, France from Sep 27 to Oct 5, 1999. He has also participated in several locally organized workshops by the Ministry of Trade and Ghana Export Promotion Council.

Internationally, he attended the West International Business Linkage (WAIBL) West Africa Textile/Apparel Trade Mission in the United States and the 3rd AGOA Forum Private Sector Session held in Washington, DC, New York and New Jersey from Dec 2-5 to Dec 8-9, 2003. He joined the ATAG group to set a booth at the Sources Tradeshow in New York in May 2004.

Mr. Avornyotse is currently expanding the market of Kente products in the U.S. and seeking international buyers.
